Donald Chitanda, MPH, CIC, Infection Control Coordinator at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Rockwall, was recognized by the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) at their annual conference. Mr. Chitanda received the 2017 APIC Chapter Leadership Award (Dallas-Ft Worth Chapter) in recognition of the active role he plays in the professional organization.
Since joining the chapter in 2012, Mr. Chitanda jumped in taking on lead volunteer roles including serving as co-chair of the 2013 annual conference. In 2014, he added a new responsibility by becoming the organization’s first Public Relations liaison. In that capacity he launched the use of social media to connect members and the community alike.
While his service to APIC has been exemplary, Mr. Chitanda plays an important role in the Rockwall hospital. He actively informs and educates staff about safe and effective processes, stays on top of current illness trends and the impact those might have on the hospital environment. He also organized weekly rounds with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure all departments remain at an optimum level of quality and cleanliness. Through his efforts the hospital staff has grown keenly aware of the role everyone plays in infection control.
