Inpatient Therapy Services

A licensed therapist evaluates each client and creates a plan of care based on each individual’s unique needs and goals for therapy. Our department has an outstanding relationship with the entire hospital staff; communication is crucial between the therapy department, nurses, physicians and the case managers in the hospital at large. Effective and timely communication is essential in facilitating continuity of care and in order to plan for the patient’s discharge.
Physical Therapy (PT)
May be needed to get patients up and moving to help decrease their risk of blood clots and pneumonia due to immobility related to illness or after surgery. PT can address use of assistive devices such as canes, walkers, crutches and wheelchairs and help patients improve their overall mobility and safety. PT can help decrease a hospitalized patients’ pain and discomfort through educational and exercise programs and by helping patients observe postsurgical precautions.
Occupational Therapy (OT)
May be needed to help patients address any difficulties with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming, etc.) due to illness or surgery. Therapists may also teach energy conservation techniques, or provide exercises and other postsurgical education.
Speech Therapy (ST)
May be needed to address any actual speech/cognitive deficits or swallowing difficulties. Speech therapists may provide education, suggest diet changes to physicians and provide exercises to address a patient’s needs. We also provide Modified Barium Swallow Studies (MBSS) on an inpatient and outpatient basis through our Radiology Department.
