About CARDIOLOGY
According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the No. 1 cause of death for both men and women in the United States. Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Rockwall offers cardiology services ranging from diagnosis by a physician on the medical staff to procedures and follow-up care.
The biggest advantage to echocardiography is that it is noninvasive (doesn’t involve breaking the skin or entering body cavities) and has no known risk or side effects.
Echocardiogram
An echocardiogram uses sound waves to produce images of the heart. Echocardiography helps to diagnose cardiovascular disease. In fact, it is one of the most widely used diagnostic tests for heart disease. It can provide a wealth of helpful information, including the size and shape of the heart, its pumping capacity and the location and extent of any tissue damage. It not only allows doctors to evaluate the heart valves, but it can detect abnormalities in the pattern of the blood flow.
Electrocardiogram (EKG)
An Electrocardiogram (EKG) is a diagnostic procedure that records the electrical activity of the heart.

An EKG shows:
• How fast your heart is beating.
• Whether the rhythm of your heartbeat is steady or irregular.
• The strength and timing of electrical signals as they pass through each part of your heart.
This test is used to detect and evaluate many heart problems, such as heart attack, arrhythmia and heart failure. EKG results also can suggest other disorders that affect heart function.

Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Rockwall has a licensed technician with the knowledge and equipment to ensure that each test meets the highest standards for the cardiologist to read and provide accurate interpretation.

In addition, Texas Health Rockwall is equipped with telemetry capabilities throughout the hospital for monitoring cardiac patients. Should you or a loved one need an invasive heart procedure, cardiologists on staff can refer you within the Texas Health Resources network of hospitals.
