| | Help Us Increase Colon Cancer Awareness | March is Colon Cancer Awareness month and Texas Health Rockwall knows that education is the key to stopping this deadly disease.
Many of us can recall the early years of breast cancer awareness, when no one felt it was an appropriate topic to discuss. In the 1970’s when my grandmother was diagnosed we didn’t talk about “it.” As a result, I wasn’t aware of my own risk factors until much later in life after other family members were diagnosed with this same disease. I am thankful for the breast cancer awareness movements that persevered. These movements have educated us and allowed us to take the necessary measures to live long and healthy lives!
Colon cancer awareness and particularly screening for this disease is experiencing the same stigma as the early years of breast cancer awareness – the “don’t want to talk about it” mentality. Yet, like breast cancer, the more you learn about this disease the more you begin to understand how easy, and important, it is to include preventative screening in your plans.
Texas Health Rockwall is making it easy for you to learn more! By taking a moment to stop by one of our events, we can share beneficial information in a very non-threatening and enjoyable manner. |
